Corrections

If you believe a figure or explanation on this site is wrong, please tell us. Tax rates and per diem figures change, and an accurate site is the entire point. Include the page and what you think the correct information is, and we will verify it against the primary source and update promptly.

What we cannot do

We cannot give personalized tax advice, review your return, or tell you what to claim in your specific situation. We are not tax professionals and this site is educational only. For advice about your own circumstances, please speak with a qualified tax professional. Many installations also offer free tax assistance to service members through the VITA program.

Advertising and partnerships

For advertising, affiliate, or partnership enquiries, use the same address above with "Partnership" in the subject line.

Privacy

Messages you send are used only to respond to you. See our privacy policy for details.

Who answers

The site is run by its creator, a reservist, and every message is read by the people who maintain it. Getting the answer right matters more than replying fast with a guess, so the usual reply time is a few business days. If your message points at a mistake, we check it against the source before we answer, and we tell you what we found even if the answer is that the page was right. There is no call centre, and messages are not passed on to outside parties.

What to include so we can help

What kinds of questions we can answer

We can explain how the deduction works, point you to the right IRS publication or form line, show how a rate is applied, and check whether a page here matches its source. We cannot tell you whether you personally qualify, what your return should say, or whether to amend. Those depend on facts only you and your preparer have. If your question is about your own return, a tax preparer, the free MilTax service from Military OneSource, or a VITA site can look at your actual documents, and the sources page lists where to find them.

How corrections work

A correction goes through the process described in the editorial policy: we verify it against the primary source, fix the page and anything else that repeats the figure, and update the last-updated date. Tax figures change every year, so a message that says a rate has moved is useful even if you are not sure. Checking ten reports that turn out fine is better than missing one that matters.

Reporting a problem with ads or links

If a link on the site is broken, goes somewhere unexpected, or an advertisement ever looks misleading, tell us which page you were on and what you saw. Affiliate links are labeled and described in the disclosure at the top of the pages where they appear, and we want to know if one is not clear. Advertising and affiliate decisions never change what the guides say.

Estimate only — not tax advice. This article is general educational information, not advice about your specific situation, and is not a substitute for a professional. Tax rules, per diem rates, and mileage rates change. Please consult a qualified tax professional or the official IRS Form 2106 instructions before filing.
